From November 11 to November 22, 2024, I had the privilege of attending the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, as a young climate negotiator. This was my inaugural experience, immersing me in the intricate issues surrounding international negotiations and enabling me to engage in tangible solutions to address the climate crisis.
Negotiations: Navigating Challenges and Opportunities
Upon my arrival in the negotiation rooms, I was struck by the complexity of the exchanges and the diversity of perspectives. I closely followed the discussions regarding adaptation, a critical issue for developing countries. The debates highlighted the significance of cooperation and transparency in the National Adaptation Plans as well as the Global Adaptation Goal.
The exchanges were occasionally spirited, particularly during the presentation of the Committee on Adaptation's report. While some participants favored collaborative approaches, others emphasized the necessity of maintaining existing processes to ensure equity and transparency. These differences effectively illustrate the challenges of achieving international consensus.

Key moments of parallel events
The panel at the pavilion of Burkina Faso
I facilitated a panel discussion on "Youth and the Climate Challenge" alongside the Minister of Environment from Burkina Faso. We explored the initiatives undertaken by young people to combat climate change and exchanged ideas on how to enhance their impact. This opportunity allowed me to share the actions that we, as Young Voices of the Sahel, are implementing in Mali with the support of UNICEF and Germany to address the climate challenge. The event highlighted the remarkable efforts of Burkina Faso in mobilizing its youth to confront climate change.
Regional Declaration on Climate Education in West Africa
During an event organized by the Permanent Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel, with active participation from countries such as Senegal and Mali, I had the opportunity to moderate a panel focused on climate education and its impact on preparing youth for environmental challenges. I emphasized the importance of having an education that considers local realities to promote sustainable solutions.
Panel at the pavilion of the International Organization of the Francophonie
In a discussion organized by the Ministry of Environment of Senegal, I presented ideas aimed at cultivating a new generation of young climate advocates. Among my suggestions were the establishment of collaborative spaces, the promotion of local initiatives, and the engagement of youth in strategic decision-making processes.
Keynote address at the Extreme Hangout pavilion
I advocated for innovative solutions in the tourism and mobility sectors. Additionally, I introduced my virtual tourism project, which aims to preserve Mali's cultural heritage while providing a sustainable and climate-friendly economic alternative.
Youth Engagement in Tunisia
This meeting, organized by the Tunisian delegation and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), provided an opportunity to discuss the involvement of youth in addressing climate change. We emphasized the significance of intergenerational participation in achieving sustainable climate justice.

The outcomes of COP29: Balancing Progress and Expectations
The COP29 has resulted in a historic agreement regarding climate financing. Developed nations have pledged to triple their financial contributions, aiming to reach $300 billion annually by 2035. These funds are intended to assist developing countries in their efforts to combat climate-related disasters and to promote clean energy initiatives.
While this commitment represents a significant advancement, some developing nations have voiced the necessity for a more accelerated response to the urgent challenges they face. Additional progress includes the establishment of new regulations for a global carbon market and a call for the gradual phasing out of fossil fuels, signifying a crucial step towards a sustainable energy transition.

My renewed commitment
This experience at COP29 has been a significant learning opportunity. It allowed me to understand the challenges of international negotiations while also witnessing the commitment of global stakeholders towards a better future.
As I depart from Baku, I am more determined than ever to amplify my advocacy efforts for a more resilient world, particularly through educational initiatives and community projects.
This COP will remain a pivotal moment in my journey, serving as a reminder that collective action is essential to safeguard our planet.
