It's Tuesday 8th September 2020. I've just read the latest annual report from KickItOut. According to their latest data, despite Covid-19 preventing a majority of Football clubs being open a spike in discrimination has occurred. This scares me. The UK needs to do more. It starts with education in PE lessons and continues into Clubs.
People are homophobic normally for a few reasons. A few of these reasons include a persons age, education, culture, and religion.
Age and education are two easy fixes. It's about showing that everybody is born free and equal, and that one does not choose to be Gay or Transgender. It's about showing people that being different is okay.
Culture and religion are hard fixes. This is where education has to come in full force, to show that being part of the LGBT+ community is not a personal choice but a choice of biology. Have zero-tolerance discrimination policies in places of religion will help reduce the stigma.
I talk about education and the LGBT+ community a lot. That is because it is so important to end discrimination in the LGBT+ community. Places like Scotland are leading the way for inclusive education and countries need to follow.
